The center of Hamburg: The town Hall next to the Kleine Alster
Hamburg is a great city that will allure you with its enchanting blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy. This German city boasts a captivating maritime history that can be seen in its stunning harbor and historic warehouses.
A unique feature of the city is the Alster Lake, a large body of water located in the heart of the city. It consists of two interconnected artificial lakes: the Outer Alster (Außenalster) and the Inner Alster (Binnenalster). The Alster Lake is a prominent feature of Hamburg’s landscape and is surrounded by parks, promenades, and iconic landmarks.
For those seeking unique treasures, Hamburg offers great second-hand shopping opportunities. From eclectic second-hand boutiques in Schanzenviertel to the fun flea market, Flohschanze, the city teems with vintage finds waiting to be discovered.
Here are 21 great vintage shops and thrift stores that I visited myself when I traveled to Hamburg. I have arranged them not by district but in the order of which ones I liked best.
Note that the area Sternschanze en Karolinenviertel boasts some of the best stores so it’s best to head to that area if you have limited time on your hands.
Here is my ultimate second hand Hamburg shopping guide!
Vintage Fabrik was my favorite thrift store in Hamburg. Boasting two floors there are a lot of clothes to choose from here and the best thing is that they are clearly organized.
Not only can you find great vintage digs here but also a large portion of upcycled clothing. A lot of things here are “remade”, for example, tops made from old shirts and cut-off T-Shirts. Prices are great, with Levi’s jeans sold for € 30.

Vintage and Rags is a family company that started in Hamburg in 1996. The shop is exactly what you expect from a good vintage store. Here you can find a great selection of vintage clothing presented beautifully in a wonderfully decorated interior, with fun lamps, photo frames on the walls and funky wallpaper.
Next to regular vintage items they also have a space upstairs dedicated to more specific collections like army wear and gala dresses. The only thing that is missing in Vintage and Rags are shoes.

Pick n Weight is a huge vintage store that is affiliated with the Pick n Weight vintage stores in Berlin. The collection they have is great and presented in a very cool way however, one thing that bothered me a little bit was the pricing. Pick n Weight was my favorite thrift store in Berlin and I have scored gems there for prices as low as € 5.
The branch in Hamburg is a kilo store so you pay by weight. Different items also have various color tags indicating how much an item costs per kilo. The cheapest items are on sale for €25/kilo and the more expensive items for €75/kilo.

Where to stay in Hamburg largely depends on your own wishes and whether or not you like the stay in the city center or alternatively in one of the more local districts.
Vegan travelers won’t find a completely vegan hotel in the city although there are a few accommodation options in Hamburg that cater to vegan travelers.
For slow travelers who like to stay more off the beaten path, check out Hood House, Schlaflounge, Fritz Im Pyama, and Studio Feuerfest which are located out of the center of Hamburg.
