Flea Markets Berlin: An Easy Guide to Paradise for Thrifters

Berlin is the best city in the world if you want to find some flea market treasures. They have an enormous flea market culture with markets spread out all over the city and most of them take place every weekend! It’s the perfect activity to plan on Saturday or Sunday after going for brunch at one of the many vegan or vegetarian cafés and restaurants in Berlin. Since there are so many of them, we compiled a list of the five ones we liked best. One point of attention: when we visit flea markets we like it to be a mellow shopping experience and get the feeling we are in an authentic environment. That is why we didn’t include two of the major flea markets in Berlin that in our opinion became a little too touristy, the flea market at Mauerpark and the one at RAW Gelande. Although not really our cup of tea, you should definitely go there if you like a bit more action and a party vibe (think beers, karaoke and crowds)! Here is our list of the places we think are perfect to get out your bargaining skills.

Flowmarkt Schöneberg

Flea Market Berlin Flowmarkt Schöneberg

Flowmarkt Schöneberg

This is our favorite flea market and it is the younger sister of the more famous Flowmarkt in Neukölln on Maybachufer. We think it was the first edition of the flea market at this location and it was great. In the future, we would also like to visit the one at Neukölln since it has an amazing location on the banks of the Landwehr canal.

The atmosphere is local and authentic and things on offer are plenty, a good mix of designer and second-hand stalls, and on top of that great street food and fun activities like having your picture taken with old vintage cameras. Our twelve points definitely go to Flowmarkt!

Flea Market Berlin at Boxhagener Platz

Berlin Flea Market Boxhagener Platz, Berlin, Germany.

Flea Market @ Boxhagener Platz

This is our second favorite market in Berlin. Here you can find really cool items like vintage lamps, sunglasses, great second-hand clothing, vases, household items, furniture … you name it and it will probably be on sale at one of the stalls.

The best thing about this flea market is its location. At Boxhagener Platz you are surrounded by a great array of cafés and restaurants. Some offer brunch on the weekend and others have finger-licking vegan and vegetarian lunch options like 1990 Vegan Living, Li.ke and Hot dog soup.

Flea Market Berlin at Rathaus Schöneberg

Berlin Flea Market Rathaus Schöneberg, Berlin, Germany.

Flea Market @ Rathaus Schöneberg

John F. Kennedy once stood on this square saying the legendary words “Ich bin ein Berliner”. The square now carries his name and during the weekend it turns into this lovely, peaceful flea market. A nice mix of nationalities sells a lot of things here ranging from furniture, clothes, and records to housewares and electrical items.

Don’t be put off by the messy impression you might get when you enter. A lot of stalls leave their items in cardboard boxes and just put these on the tables. Not very attractive to look at but it is sure as hell a good place to do some serious bargaining.

U-Bahn: U4 Rathaus Schöneberg

Every Saterday and Sunday 8h-16h

Flea Market Berlin at Marheinekeplatz

Flea Market Berlin at Marheinekeplatz, Berlin, Germany.

Flea Market @ Marheinekeplatz

There were not many stalls and visitors here when we dropped by this cute market and that was just fine by us! At Bergmannkiez in Kreuzberg, you can find this charming, authentic market next to Marheineke Markthalle. Although quite small, there is a lot on offer like records, antiques, and a lot of second-hand clothing.

When you’re done digging for treasures you can visit the Markthalle to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, or other local delicacies. You can also grab lunch here at one of the many stalls. We particularly liked Die Kleene Aubergine, a vegan/vegetarian food stall with tasty salads, gnocchi, and cakes. Note that the Markthalle is closed on Sunday. There’s also a branch of the Vegan supermarket Veganz inside the building.

Arena indoor Flea Market berlin

Arena indoor Flea Market, Berlin, Germany.

Arena Indoor Flea Market

This flea market seemed a bit odd at first when we entered. It felt like some sort of abandoned warehouse and we were not quite sure what to expect. Luckily, it turned out to be a great place with some shiny “m’as tu vu” stalls stealing the spotlight.

You can find so many things here ranging from lamps and furniture to guitars and bikes. And the good thing is: it has a roof. So you can visit even when it is rainy.
