Do you think Bali is the Mekka for vegans and vegetarians? Think again! If you are living a meat-free life then Berlin is thé place for you.
While Germany’s classic dishes are not veggie-friendly at all (think meatballs, currywurst, and schnitzels!), Berlin anticipated the rising number of vegetarians in the city and now the vegetarian and vegan scene is booming.
When walking around in Berlin it has become hard not to find a restaurant that has a “vegan and vegetarian” sign on the door! Nearly all restaurants are vegetarian-friendly, some are 100% vegetarian with vegan options and others even offer fully vegan menus to tickle your tastebuds.
With so many options, it becomes hard to choose. This is a list of my favorite vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Berlin that I collected after spending one month in this gritty but beautiful city.
Plant-based restaurants pop up like mushrooms in the capital city of Germany. Here is a list to make it a little easier for you. I’ve arranged them in different categories from fine dining to brunch places and where you need to go to try vegan versions of typical German dishes.
Below you can find the most popular vegan fine dining options in Berlin. Needless to say that you will have to spend some money to visit these places but, if you don’t mind a fixed menu, there are some deals to be done, for example, the lunch at Kopps!
Berlin vegan restaurant: Kopps
Kopps is a fine dining vegan restaurant in Berlin at a more expensive price range. The ingredients they use at Kopps are all bio-certified and ethically sourced.
Mushroom soup @ Kopps Berlin
You can find them in Prenzlauer Berg on a cozy street corner with a terrace. Aside from their fine dining experience, they do however also offer a Sunday brunch for € 25/pp and on weekdays a vegan turbo lunch menu for € 15/pp and that’s really peanuts for the quality food you are getting.
Vegan Berlin: Vanilla mousse with raspberry compote
I enjoyed this fixed lunch menu and had a delicious mushroom soup with fresh herbs, pumpkin risotto, and vanilla mousse with a crumble and raspberry compote as dessert. The waiters pass by frequently asking if everything is okay but not in an aggravating way. Should definitely be on your go-to list when visiting Berlin!

Frea is a vegan fine dining and zero-waste restaurant in Mitte. The concept is great. They compost the leftover food of the restaurant themselves in 24 hours in a machine. Afterward, they return it to their suppliers who use it to grow new fruits and vegetables.
The only open up the restaurant in the evening so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. You can choose a four to six course menu and opt to let the food be accompanied by a selection of wines or alcohol-free beverages.

If you want to go out for dinner and you have some extra money to spend then you can treat yourself to a dinner at Cookies Cream, a Michelin Star vegetarian restaurant located in the heart of Berlin.
They offer five to seven-course vegan menus that can be paired with wine or non-alcoholic beverages.
To add an extra touch to your visit, you can plan your visit when they invite special musical guests on Thursdays.

If you’re looking for a cool vegan restaurant to meet up with friends and family then the following vegan places in Berlin are excellent choices!
Berlin has a large array of world cuisine restaurants and you can really find anything, from Vietnamese restaurants to Spanish tapas and even Korean dumplings!
Do you have some vegan Asian cravings? This restaurant is a top choice to satisfy your needs! Feel Seoul Good is a vegan Korean restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg. They serve vegans versions of traditional Korean dishes like bibimpap and kimchi dumplings.
The friendly and professional staff effectuate a positive atmosphere in their beautiful restaurant. Go during the evening for a soul-soothing dinner in the peaceful interior or enjoy a cup of Cha Seoghoe and some mandu kimchi on the sunny terrace during the weekend! Good vibes are guaranteed.
It is our top favorite out of all the vegan restaurants in Berlin.

You can not actually see this vegan Vietnamese restaurant on the side of the street. Good Morning Vietnam is hidden in a backyard together with a few other stores at Bergmannkiez in Kreuzberg.
The setting is beautiful, with an open terrace on the first floor and the restaurant itself is mostly made up of glass windows. The food is all vegan and on the menu, you can find typically Vietnamese dishes like Pho, curries, and noodles. Next to the restaurant, you can find a huge second-hand Kilostore. A perfect combo for a visit!

Ataya restaurant is kind of a special place. They cook up an interesting mix of Italian and Senegalese cuisine and are a 100% vegan restaurant in Berlin.
The plates at Ataya are real works of art, full of color and a diverse taste palette. The interior is also colorful and, even though in reality it is a bit darker inside than the pictures on the website suggest, extremely cozy and comfortable.
Add the authenticity and friendliness of the staff and you never want to leave! They really manage to make the restaurant feel like a home. On Sundays they do brunch and during the week you can get lunch. On Friday and Saturday, they also host dinners. The vegan ravioli is delicious! Portions are big!

Berlin has numerous Vietnamese restaurants and many of them are vegetarian or vegan. “Chay” means vegetarian in the Vietnamese language and that’s exactly what this restaurant is. Don’t worry, almost everything on the menu is vegan too!
The multitude of Vietnamese restaurants is a result of the past. Firstly, during the Vietnam War, many Vietnamese fled their country and came to West Berlin. Secondly, in the 1980s many other Vietnamese came to East Berlin as contract workers. After the wall fell they all got to stay in Berlin and either opened a flower shop or a restaurant.
Chay Village is one of these great Vietnamese vegan restaurants in Berlin. The Pho is absolutely mouth-watering. The staff is friendly and polite and the interior is cozy. A heartwarming experience. They have one restaurant in Friedrichshain and another one in Schöneberg.

Alaska Bar is a cute and hidden gem near Ruiterkiez in Neukolln. This is the best place in Berlin if you are looking for vegan tapas and cocktails.
On the menu, you can find vegan cheeses and faux-gras but also classic Spanish tapas like olives, patatas bravas, and pimientos del Padron. Be sure to try the vegan creme Catalana for dessert!

1990 Vegan Living Berlin
1990 Vegan Living is one of the most popular vegan restaurants in Berlin. Conveniently located at the corner of Boxhagener Platz in Friedrichshain, it is packed with customers almost every day of the week.
The best time to visit 1990 Vegan Living is for lunch or dinner on a Sunday. On that day, one of the funnest flea markets in Berlin takes place on Boxhager Plats from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M.
The menu is arranged into two sections of small bowls and larger dishes. Expect delicious soups and Bao buns and out-of-this-world curry and tofu dishes!
TIP: If 1990 Vegan Linving happens to be fully booked, there’s another great vegan Thai restaurant just across the street that is called Li.ke.

German cuisine tends to be very meat-heavy and therefore it’s not that easy to find fully vegan restaurants that only serve German fare.
However, I stumbled upon a great restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg called “Försters” which had a nice selection of vegan German dishes. I’ll tell you all about it below!
Vegan restaurants in Berlin: Försters
“Försters” means “Forest ranger” in English. The name perfectly reflects their concern and respect for the environment and animal welfare. At Försters, no plastic is used whatsoever and the ingredients are organic and sourced from organic suppliers in Berlin.
On the menu, you can find vegan versions of traditional classic German dishes like Königsberger Klopse (vegan meatballs in a white sauce) and vegan schnitzel.

Craving a burger or kebab? You can find some amazing vegan burger joints in Berlin! My personal fast food favorite however in Berlin is Refueat, a Syrian food stall that offers a delicious vegan Makali sandwich.
Here are some great vegan options for fast food in Berlin!
Sometimes you just crave fast food. Enter Vedang – the future of fast food, as they like to call themselves! This fast-food restaurant has four locations situated at four different malls around Berlin.
They serve 100% meat-free burgers with side dishes like nuggets and fries, wraps, and ice cream. All the burgers, wraps, and fries are 100% vegan. The taste is the real deal. 100% pure vegan fast food pleasure! Their Vedang burger sauce is delicious!

Although not completely vegetarian or vegan, the concept of this little restaurant in Schöneberg is great. Refueat is all about middle-eastern cuisine and employs refugees from Syria.
The aim is to integrate them into society by giving them a job and purpose. Aside from the restaurant they also have a street food concept. You can hire them for big or small events to cook Arabian-inspired street food on a “food bike”, which they built themselves. A great opportunity to get to know Syria and Syrian cuisine.
The sandwich Makali is delicious, with different types of filling, hummus, aubergine caviar, grilled vegetables, and topped with pomegranate seeds. An absolute delight.

Vegan kebab @ Voner, Berlin
Voner is a vegan Doner joint located at the Boxhagenerstrasse in Friedrichshain. It’s quite popular with locals, although I found the service a bit arrogant and pretentious. That’s a bummer because they present themselves as an unpretentious café/dinner joint.
The kebab was tasty though and they also offer vegan goulash and brownies and cookies for dessert.

Unfortunately, my preferred vegan brunch spot/hotel has closed its doors in 2022. Bistro Bardot was a vegetarian restaurant inside the amazing Almodovar hotel. It was the most sustainable hotel in Berlin that had a lovely spa and even offered yoga mats in the rooms.
There are, however, more great brunch spots in Berlin and don’t get me started on cakes and dessert. The best vegan donuts are found in Berlin!
Vegan restaurants in Berlin: No Milk Today
No Milk Today is a vegan brunch café in Kreuzberg near Volkspark Hasenheide and Tempelhofer Feld, some of the greatest parks in Berlin.
It’s a place that is mostly frequented by eco-conscious locals and ex-pats. At No Milk Today, they really care about animal welfare and the environment and this translates into a fantastic menu with not only vegan but also gluten-free and raw options.
Be sure to try their Vietnamese-style coconut coffee, smoked tofu bagel, and cinnamon rolls!

Vux café is another wonderful brunch place in Berlin. Located in the Wipperstrasse in Neukolln, the relaxed atmosphere and nicely decorated interior will surely draw you in in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, it’s only open during the weekend, so if you travel to Berlin and you want to visit Vux Café, then you will have to plan accordingly.
On the menu, you can find a lot of vegan comfort food like vegan cheesecake, waffles, bagels, and bao buns.

If you have a vegan sweet tooth, then you will surely adore Brammibal’s Donuts. Brammibal’s is a vegan bakery specializing in Donuts. They are freshly made each day and, aside from a standard range of eight classic donuts, tastes, and ingredients vary depending on the seasons.
With six branches in the city of Berlin, they have become a household name. My absolute favorite is the chocolate peanut butter fudge. Let me know yours if you ever go there! <3

Aside from the many fully plant-based restaurants in Berlin, there’s also one regular restaurant that completely stole my heart. It’s called Buddha Haus and it has the most relaxed atmosphere I have ever come across for a restaurant!
Vegan-friendly restaurant in Berlin: Buddha Haus
The charming restaurant Buddha Haus in Schöneberg ticks all the boxes if you want to have a relaxed dining experience. Nestled next to a meditation center, this restaurant offers some fine authentic Nepalese, Tibetan, and Thai cuisine.
While they are not completely meat-free, they have an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu including dishes like Thali, momo’s, Daal Bhat, Pad Thai, and different kinds of curries. The restaurant’s interior has an intimate vibe although there is plenty of seating.
The main draw for many people however is the cozy courtyard decorated with candles and Nepalese flags. A comfy and mellow experience is guaranteed!

I have been to Berlin something like 25 years ago. I don’t think there was much vegetarian and vegan choice at that time. Glad to hear there is now! Those doughnuts, it makes me want to visit Berlin again! 🙂
Julia
While I’m not a vegetarian, I don’t cook meat at home and therefore only eat it like once a week (or less), so when on the road searching out meat free meals is critical and can be surprisingly difficult sometimes! This list is super helpful!
Cristina
Oh wow, I wish I read your list before I visited Berlin. It’s amazing to see that there are more and more vegan restaurants in the city. I am definitely saving your post for future trips to Berlin. Thank you for sharing!
