Pelion Beaches: Damouchari beach

Damouchari is a tiny picturesque coastal village in Pelion Greece. The beach here is a mix of pebbles and sand and the water is crystal-clear surrounded by rocks which makes it a perfect beach for snorkeling.

Although tiny, the beach became quite famous when the movie “Mamma Mia” chose Damouchari to shoot a few scenes here for the film in 2007. Nonetheless, Damouchari beach is still not discovered by the masses and retains a natural and pure charm you cannot help but fall in love with.

On your right hand facing the sea, you can see stairs climbing up the cliffs. This is a hiking trail leading you to another beautiful beach, called Fakistra Beach. If you are traveling with a tent, you can find some camping spots in a small gorge next to the stairs. It is not organized but a few people were camping there at the time of our visit. It’s not possible though to reach the spot with a campervan or car.

There are changing cabins and trash bins at the beach. For coffee or refreshments, there’s a restaurant overlooking the beach. They also offer sunchairs in the shade of the olive trees next to the restaurant for a small fee.

There’s also a second little beach belonging to Damouchari, called the Damouchari Harbor. Here you can rent sup boards and kayaks or just relax on the tiny patch of sand.

For lunch or dinner, head to Victoria Cafe where you can find the best food in Damouchari and enjoy outstanding views of the harbor and the surroundings.

Plaka is one of the most beautiful beaches in Pelion. It’s rather sandy with some small pebbles and a green hill with lush vegetation in the background.

Accessing the beach is only possible on foot. You can park your car at the port of Agios Ioannis and from there, a rocky trail will take you to Plaka beach. There should also be a trail on the left-hand side of the beach.

In the middle of the beach, you can find some sunchairs and umbrellas belonging to Hotel Eden, which I believe you can rent if you want.

However, Plaka Beach its charm is its wild and rugged character which is best enjoyed if you stay on the right-hand side of the beach.

Aside from the umbrellas and sunchair belonging to Eden Hotel, there are no amenities or facilities on Plaka beach so bring some snacks and drinks if you are planning to stay here for a while.

You can find a few guesthouses in the hills behind the beach and a big campsite called Papa Nero Beach at the left-hand side of the beach leading to Agios Ioannis.

If you like small hidden gems then Labinou beach is surely one you’ll want to discover. This small beach cove can be reached by car but also on foot from nearby Limnionas beach. Getting here on foot from Limnionas is an adventure in itself. The route is not clearly signposted so you have to look well to find your way through the olive groves.

The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles and has a changing cabin but aside from that there are no amenities. The beach offers plenty of shady spots and the rocks surrounding the cove are ideal for snorkeling.

The cute little restaurant at Labinou beach

On top of the hillside next to the beach, you can find this cute little restaurant offering wonderful traditional Greek food. The zucchini flowers stuffed with rice are highly recommended.

Take note that cellphone reception is really bad at this location and 4G is not in reach. This is the perfect place if you are looking for peace and tranquillity.

Pelion beaches: Myloptamos beach

Mylopotamos Beach is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in Pelion. The beach is surrounded by high cliffs with one cliff splitting the beach in two letting people pass from one beach to the other through a hole in de rockface.

The beach is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas and a snack shack where you can get food and drinks. If you don’t like the organized part of the beach, go through the rockface to the second part of the beach where it should be more low-key.

Mylopotamos beach is no secret and is quite accessible so expect to find quite a few people here during the summer months.

The road to Café del Mare & Aggelika’s fish taverna

Because the snack shack is nothing much, you better take the trail on the righthand side of the beach if you are in search of tasty food and hipster drinks. This trail leads you to stairs up to Cafe del Mare which has a magnificent sea view and yummy ice cream frappés and a little further up you can find Aggelika’s fish taverna for a lovely traditional Greek meal.

Feeling adventurous? If you take the stairs down at Aggelika’s fish taverna you will find another little rocky beach offering rock climbing facilities.

Beaches Pelion: Agios Ioannis

Agios Ioannis is the main seaside resort town on the eastern coast of the Pelion Peninsula. It’s the perfect place if you like beaches to be well-organized and all amenities close by.

You can find sunbeds and beach umbrellas on the sandy beach with some rocks and pebbles. Changing cabins and trash bins are also available. You won’t have to look hard to find anything you might need. The seaside promenade is filled with cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, and supermarkets, making a beach trip here a relaxed experience.

Beaches Pelion: Limnionas Beach

Last but not least, Limnionas Beach is another cute beach on the eastern coast of the Pelion peninsula. You won’t find many people here due to the fairly difficult access to the beach.

To reach Limnionas beach, you will have to drive down a very steep road. On the EO34 near Xorychti, you have to make your way down at a sign that says “Faros Hotel”. At first, the road will be asphalted but it will soon turn into a gravel road without crash barriers. When the road splits, take right and a gravel road will take you to Limnionas beach.

There’s limited parking space on the beach and no amenities because of its isolated location.

This beach is perfect for people who like to camp by the beach. At the time of our visit, there were a few people who had put up tents and if you dare to drive down the road with a campervan this beach will be pure bliss.

A changing room and running water are provided at the beach. Walking a bit inwards, you can find a trail on your left-hand side leading you up the mountains to Labinou Beach.

  • Agii Saranta Beach
  • Chorefto Beach
  • Kala Nera Beach
  • Brian Beach
  • Tourkopigi Beach
  • Potistiki Beach

Pelion Beaches: Final thoughts

Note that the most beautiful beaches of Pelion are found on the eastern Pelion coastline of the peninsula by the Aegean sea. The west coast also has some beach towns but the water of the Pagasetic gulf is not that crystal clear.

There are however some cute villas in Pelion to check out that are scattered across the peninsula! It’s worth checking out where you will be the most comfortable staying and if amenities are nearby.

There are also not that many hairpin roads on the Pagasetic Gulf while it can be a bit frightening to drive around in the east!
