Who is SURI?

SURI (Sustainable Rituals) is an eco-friendly toothbrush brand that aims to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainability. Their toothbrushes are typically made from renewable or biodegradable materials such as bamboo or other natural fibers, as opposed to traditional plastic toothbrushes.

By choosing a SURI Sustainable Toothbrush, you can contribute to minimizing your environmental impact by reducing the amount of plastic waste generated from everyday dental care. I believe they are the most sustainable dental care brand in the market today!

The London-based company carries out its mission to create a sustainable and joyful product to clean your teeth with by working together with partners to do better. They are B-Corp certified and work together with ClimatePartner to offset their emissions.

Furthermore, their toothbrushes are reusable, repairable, and recyclable!

Why is Suri an Ethical brand?

Trysuri is an ethical brand due to its dedication to sustainability. Here is what they do:

Aluminium body

SURI utilizes aluminum for its toothbrush body, which is a more sustainable alternative to plastic. Aluminum is highly recyclable and has a lower environmental impact compared to traditional plastic materials.

Plant-based heads

The brand’s toothbrush heads are made from plant-based materials such as corn starch and castor oil, reducing the reliance on petroleum-based plastics and promoting renewable resources.

Eco-friendly packaging

SURI prioritizes eco-friendly packaging materials, opting for sustainable alternatives such as recycled paper or biodegradable materials. This helps minimize waste and environmental impact.

Carbon neutral shipment

SURI is committed to offsetting the carbon emissions associated with shipping its products. By partnering with climate initiatives, they ensure that their shipments have a net-zero carbon footprint.

Repair service

SURI offers repair options for their toothbrushes, allowing you to extend the lifespan of your product and reduce waste.

If your brush is still under warranty, they will send you a new item while recycling and reusing the parts of the broken one for free. Without warranty, you’ll have to pay a fee depending on the work required.

Recycling

SURI provides recycling options for their toothbrush heads, making it easier for you to properly dispose of and recycle these components. This initiative promotes a circular economy and reduces plastic waste.

If the aluminum body or the protective case breaks or if you want to dispose of your toothbrush, they take it back and recycle it for you.

B-corp

SURI is B-Corp certified, which means they meet rigorous standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

They wanted to build a company that puts the planet first and by meeting these standards they proved that they are a truly ethical business. No greenwashing here and a transparent business model.

Climate partner

SURI has partnered with ClimatePartner, an organization focused on climate protection and sustainability. They want to offset 100% of their emissions, not only for transport but also for the whole manufacturing process. Projects include wind energy in Brazil and clean drinking water in countries like Mozambique and Sierra Leone.

My review of the Suri toothbrush

As an avid supporter of sustainable living and traveling, I recently had the opportunity to try out the SURI Sonic Toothbrush. With its promise of superior cleaning performance and a range of sustainable features, I was eager to put it to the test!

After using it for several weeks, I can confidently say that this toothbrush has exceeded my expectations on all fronts. I don’t feel the need to ever want to use another toothbrush again.

In the past, I have suffered from gum bleeds a lot. Using a regular toothbrush wasn’t enough but I refrained from buying an electric one because of its unsustainable design.

However, bamboo brushes were also not my thing. From my experience, they don’t clean your teeth properly due to the fact that the bristles are too soft. It might be possible that there are better bamboo toothbrushes out there! But I haven’t found them (yet).

Suri Sustainable sonic toothbrush

Suri toothbrush review

After cleaning my teeth with this toothbrush during a four-month conscious travel trip through Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, I can say that the standout feature of the SURI Sonic Toothbrush is its exceptional cleaning power.

The sonic technology used in this toothbrush produces rapid vibrations, delivering a deep and thorough clean that surpasses any other toothbrush I’ve used before.  It leaves my mouth feeling refreshingly clean and polished and the gum bleeds are gone! I also only had to recharge to toothbrush once during my trip. One charge was good for brushing my teeth for three months! That’s much more than the 40-day battery life mentioned on the website.

Additionally, what sets the SURI Sonic Toothbrush apart is its dedication to sustainability. The design is sleek and beautiful but the great thing is that every aspect of this toothbrush reflects a thoughtful consideration for the environment. It felt good knowing that my oral care routine was contributing to a healthier planet.

The only thing I thought of using this toothbrush that could maybe be an additional feature is a small solar panel attached to the charger or a built-in solar panel feature in the toothbrush itself to make it ultra-sustainable. However, the USB charging cable allows you to connect the toothbrush to any portable solar panel that has a USB port so you can easily do this yourself if you would want to.

Why Suri is better than other brands

It’s clear that SURI is a better alternative to the popular plastic toothbrushes of Oral B and Philips due to the plastic body of those toothbrushes. To be complete, however, I will compare SURI to these popular brands and also to a more “sustainable” brand I found online.

Suri vs. Oral B

Both the SURI Sonic Toothbrush and Oral-B toothbrushes offer effective cleaning performances. The SURI Sonic Toothbrush utilizes sonic technology, which produces rapid vibrations that help remove plaque and provide a deep clean. Oral-B toothbrushes, on the other hand, often feature rotating or oscillating brush heads that also deliver thorough cleaning.

In terms of sustainability, however, the SURI Sonic Toothbrush shines. It incorporates sustainable materials such as an aluminum body and plant-based brush heads made from corn starch and castor oil. These eco-friendly choices reduce plastic waste and promote renewable resources. Oral-B toothbrushes are made from plastic and do not have the same sustainable features.

A SURI toothbrush might cost more, but it’s worth paying this price to make your oral care routine more eco-friendly.

Suri vs. Philips one by Sonicare

Both the SURI Sonic Toothbrush and the Philips One by Sonicare are designed to provide effective cleaning. They utilize sonic technology, which produces rapid vibrations for a thorough and deep clean.

However, the SURI Sonic Toothbrush emphasizes sustainability with its use of eco-friendly materials and this commitment to sustainability sets it apart. The Philips One by Sonicare doesn’t have the same sustainability features.

Suri vs. Bambrush

Suri and Bambrush have a lot in common. They are both fabricated using eco-friendly materials!

The SURI Sonic Toothbrush is committed to sustainability with its use of eco-friendly materials like an aluminum body and plant-based brush heads made from corn starch and castor oil. Bambrush, as the name suggests, is primarily made from bamboo, which is a renewable and biodegradable resource. It offers a natural and eco-friendly alternative to plastic toothbrushes.

They both offer sonic technology with rapid vibration providing a thorough clean. However, Bambrush is not a certified B-corp organization, doesn’t mention carbon-neutral manufacturing on its website, and doesn’t offer a repair and recycling service which makes SURI still stand out.
