Organic Basics Review: The Tencel Lounge Pack

Traveling as sustainably as possible also means incorporating sustainability into your backpack or suitcase. Whenever I need travel gear, whether it’s clothing, toiletries, or a good backpack I look out for conscious brands that share my values. In this post, I’ll shed my light on “Organic Basics”, an ethical brand from Denmark that produces underwear, activewear, and basic loungewear.

What is Organic Basics?

Organic Basics Review

Organic Basics is a Danish sustainable fashion brand that prioritizes ethical production, environmental responsibility, and timeless design over big profit and fast fashion.

They offer a lovely range of clothing essentials, including underwear, swimwear, and everyday basics. For the production of these items, Organic Basics is committed to using organic and recycled materials, reducing waste, and minimizing its carbon footprint.

Furthermore, Organic Basics ensures fair wages and safe working conditions for all involved in their supply chain.

Their products are praised for their exceptional quality, comfort, and durability and cater to conscious travelers and consumers who seek fashion that aligns with their values.

Why is organic basics an ethical brand?

Organic Basics tries to implement sustainability into every aspect of its work. From the selection of the fabrics they source to produce their clothing to fair working conditions, I’ll explain below what makes Organic Basics an ethical brand.

Materials

Organic Basics prides itself on using high-quality fabrics and materials that align with its commitment to sustainability.

They prioritize the use of organic cotton, which is grown without the use of harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, minimizing environmental impact.

Recycled materials, such as recycled nylon and polyester, are also incorporated into their designs, giving a new life to post-consumer waste. These materials help reduce resource consumption and landfill waste.

Additionally, Organic Basics utilizes TENCEL™ Lyocell, a fabric made from sustainably harvested wood pulp, known for its softness and breathability.

Finally, even the dyes that they use are organic and made from natural, non-edible agricultural and herbal industrial waste.

These consciously chosen fabrics and materials ensure that Organic Basics’ clothes are not only stylish but also environmentally friendly and gentle on the skin!

Note that they do however still use a small percentage of virgin materials like elastane but this is necessary to prevent the clothes from sagging and bagging.

Transparant supply chain

One of the distinguishing features of Organic Basics is its commitment to transparency throughout its supply chain.

The brand takes pride in providing customers with a clear understanding of how their products are made.

They work closely with trusted suppliers and partners who share their values and stick to strict ethical standards. By openly sharing information about their manufacturing processes, materials used, and production locations, Organic Basics allows consumers to make informed choices about their purchases.

This transparency also extends to fair wages and safe working conditions for all workers involved in the production of their clothes but doesn’t stop there. On top of that, they also actively track their CO2 emissions and try to reduce or offset them.

Fair working conditions

Organic Basics only collaborates with factories that ensure fair and safe working conditions and share the same sustainable values.

Also concerning this topic, they operate completely transparent and you can find a list of all the factories they work with on their website, who they get audited by, and which certifications they have.

By partnering with manufacturers who share their values, Organic Basics aims to contribute to the empowerment and well-being of the individuals who contribute to the production of their clothing.

Peta-Aproved

Organic Basics holds the PETA-Approved Vegan certification, reflecting their commitment to animal welfare and cruelty-free practices.

By obtaining the PETA certification, the brand assures consumers that its products are free from the use of animal-derived materials or animal testing. This aligns with Organic Basics’ core values of sustainability and ethical production.

Do note that a small portion of their collection is not vegan, more specifically the recycled cashmere and merino wool collections. All the other items are vegan though and you can recognize them by the PETA-Approved label.

B-corp

Organic Basics proudly carries the B-Corp certification, highlighting its commitment to balancing purpose and profit. As a B-Corp brand, Organic Basics meets rigorous social and environmental standards, demonstrating its dedication to making a positive impact.

They undergo a comprehensive assessment of their business practices, considering factors such as governance, worker treatment, environmental impact, and transparancy.

This certification solidifies their position as a brand that prioritizes not only its financial success but also its contribution to a better world.

CArbon Neutral

Organic Basics is a trailblazing company committed to combating climate change through its carbon-neutral practices. They take significant steps to minimize their environmental impact, including measuring and reducing their carbon emissions across their entire supply chain.

To offset their remaining carbon footprint, they invest in projects that support reforestation and conservation initiatives. By actively seeking carbon neutrality, Organic Basics ensures that its operations have a net-zero impact on the environment.

To achieve this, they work together with One Carbon World.

My review of the Tencel Lounge Pack

I was already very fond of Organic Basics as a brand because of its commitment to sustainability. I received the TENCEL Lounge Pack in return for an honest review and gladly accepted since I was already a fan.

Organic Basics Review

The TENCEL Lounge Pack from Organic Basics is an absolute must if you seek comfort and style in your loungewear. This pack includes a TENCEL Lounge Tee and TENCEL Lounge Shorts, both made from sustainable TENCEL Lyocell fabric. The material is incredibly soft, lightweight, and breathable, making it perfect for relaxing at home or in your hotel room.

The Lounge Tee has a relaxed fit with a simple neckline and wide sleeves, offering a stylish yet laid-back look. The Lounge Shorts features an elastic waistband and a relaxed fit, providing freedom of movement. The attention to detail, for example, the subtle incorporation of the logo, adds a touch of sophistication to the set.

However, what truly sets this lounge pack apart is its sustainability. TENCEL Lyocell is derived from sustainably harvested wood pulp and produced using an environmentally friendly process. This ensures that not only do you look and feel great in these loungewear pieces, but you also know you’re making a positive impact on the planet.

The TENCEL Lounge Tee is not only suitable to wear at home or in your hotel room but also feels good to go out during the day combined with jeans or sweatpants. The Tencil Lounge Shorts, in my opinion, is better suitable to wear indoors as loungewear.

Pros and cons of Organic Basics

Organic Basics Review

To finish this post, let me quickly recap the pros of organic basics as well as a few cons. Do note that I didn’t experience the cons myself but that I read them in a few customer reviews on their website.

Pros of Organic Basics as a Brand:

  • Sustainability Commitment: Organic Basics is dedicated to sustainable practices, using organic and recycled materials, promoting fair trade, and striving for carbon neutrality.
  • Ethical Production: The brand ensures fair working conditions and wages for its workers, only works with factories that share its values, and showcases transparency in its supply chain.
  • High-Quality Products: Organic Basics offers well-crafted, durable clothing essentials that are designed to last. This ensures that you will receive products that not only look good but will also withstand the test of time.
  • Activism: Organic Basics actively donates to organizations and projects that fight climate through their partnership with 1% for the planet.

Cons of Organic Basics as a Brand:

  • Higher Price Range: The sustainable practices and high-quality materials used by Organic Basics contribute to a higher price point for their products compared to fast fashion items. However, the durability of the items is much better, so you will be able to use them longer!
