The city is known for its Lantern Festival, a big celebration that includes beautiful lights, colors, and traditions. Hanoi is the bustling capital of Vietnam. This city is more than 1000 years old and is a mix of old traditions and modern life. More than 7.9 million live here. Hanoi is famous for its 36 streets with 36 trades, and iconic places like the Temple of Literature (Quoc Tu Giam), Ba Dinh Square, and many others.
To get to Hanoi, you’ll possibly arrive at Noi Bai International Airport, which is 45 km away from the city center. Once you’re in Hanoi, you can move around using various options like buses, taxis, and motorbikes.
The distance between Hoi An and Hanoi is about 800 kilometers. If you go by bus or car, it can take up to 16 hours.
The fastest way to go from Hoi An to Hanoi is by air, covering around 630 kilometers in 3 hours. If you prefer scenic traveling, you can take a train, and it takes about 18.5 hours.

If you’re planning to travel from the beautiful town of Hoi An to the bustling city of Hanoi in Vietnam, taking a bus can be a convenient and budget-friendly option. Sleeper buses with their reclining seats or flatbeds are a popular option. They are cheaper than trains and offer an “Open Tour” option, allowing you to hop on and off at major cities along the route.
Many companies will take you straight from Hoi An to Hanoi. But deciding which ones are good and avoiding getting overcharged can be a bit tricky.

The fastest way to travel between Hoi An and Hanoi is by air. But Hoi An doesn’t have its own airport. So, if you want to fly from Hoi An to Hanoi, you first have to go to Da Nang Airport.
First, you need to go from Hoi An to Da Nang. Da Nang Airport is about 30 km north of Hoi An. You have two options to get there: a 1-hour shuttle bus or a private transfer through taxi.
If you’re traveling alone, the shuttle bus is a good choice. It picks you up in the center of Hoi An and takes you directly to Da Nang Airport. If you’re traveling with a group, taking a taxi or using a private transfer might be cheaper.
Next, to get from Da Nang to Hanoi, you can take a flight. It only takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, and there are five airlines you can choose from: Bamboo Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines. They run 23 flights every day. The planes leave from Da Nang Airport and land at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi.
The prices of airline tickets may vary. They can be as low as 99,000 VND or as much as 799,000 VND for one-way trips. Round trips might cost between 938,000 VND and 1,598,000 VND.
The best time to find good deals on flights for this route is usually in September, October, and November. But, if you plan to travel from April to August, which is the peak tourist season in Hanoi, the ticket prices might be a bit higher.
Once you arrive at Hanoi airport, there are different ways to reach the city center. It is about 28 kilometers away, and it usually takes around 40 to 50 minutes. The cheapest option is to hop on Express Bus # 86. It will get you from Hanoi airport to the Old Quarter in about 45 minutes, and a ticket costs around VND 45,000 or $1.80. You can also consider taking a shuttle bus, public bus, or taxi.

Taking the train is a great and exciting way to travel from Hoi An to Hanoi. The journey is pretty long, but it can be an exciting adventure, and you’ll see many beautiful things along the way. When you think about how far you’re going, the train is also the cheapest way to travel. When you buy a ticket, it often includes 2 or 3 bags, and sometimes even more, for each person.
However, Hoi An doesn’t have its own train station. So, you’ll have to catch a bus or taxi to the nearest train station, which is in Da Nang.
First, to get from Hoi An to Da Nang, you can take a minivan. It takes about 1 hour, and the cost is around 155,000 VND. You can catch a minivan every hour or two. Different companies run this route, and they leave from their offices in Hoi An town center.
Next, if you’re going from Da Nang to Hanoi, taking the train is a good way to turn a very long journey into a bit of fun. The train ride itself is an adventure, plus you’ll see lots of beautiful sights along the way.
There are various train services like Lama Express, Vietnam Railways, Lotus Train, Violette Express Train, and NewLivitrans Express. Six different types of trains (SE8, SE2, SE6, SE20, SE10, and SE4) run from Hoi An to Hanoi.
Each train offers different amenities and levels of comfort. The choice depends on the type of seat, train, and the time you want to travel. Prices are usually around 576,000 VND or $30.
Here are some seat options you can choose from:
A hard sleeper is a good pick for overnight trips, while a soft seat is more comfy for daytime travel.
Finally, when you arrive at Hanoi Railway Station, it is about 2 km southwest of the Old Quarter. If your hotel is there, it’s about a 20-minute walk.
But if you have a lot of luggage, you can also hop in a taxi for a quick 10-minute ride, which usually costs around 70,000 VND or $2.80.
Riding a motorbike is another good way to go from Hanoi to Hoi An. Even if you don’t own a motorbike in Vietnam, many shops nationwide let you rent one for a “one-way” trip. You can start in one city and leave the bike in another.
The cost of renting a motorbike from Hanoi to Hoi An can vary. It depends on the type of motorbike and the rental company. Generally, you have to pay around $15 to $25 per day for a regular motorbike.
