A few weeks ago, I walked the colorful streets of Comuna 13 with @zippytour13. It's a place that has risen from a history of drug violence in the 1990s to become a place of stunning street art and unbreakable community spirit.

As I explored the neighborhood, guided by the wisdom and warmth of our local guide Yulieth, I was moved by the tales of perseverance and her energy was infectious. The escalators, once a symbol of innovation for accessibility to this mountainous part of the city, now stand as a metaphor for the community's rise, both literally and figuratively.

This tour has been more than just a walk through a neighborhood. It's been a profound journey of understanding and connection. The spirit of Comuna 13 is a great reminder for us all that the most beautiful stories of hope and renewal can emerge from the deepest challenges.

Who says off-the-beaten-path isn't fun?

Instead of visiting the extremely popular village of Palomino on the Caribbean Coast in Colombia, my boyfriend and I chose another location, unknown to most tourists, even Colombian ones.

We found a happy place in Dibulla, a small town with an incredible laid-back vibe, only 35 kilometers away from Palomino. Instead of the hectics of loads of tourists, as we experienced in the coastal mountain town of Minca, we only had to share Dibulla with a handful of other tourists.

We had the beaches to ourselves, saw pelicans skirting over the sea, and enjoyed splashing with the locals in the Rio Jerez.

The Valle de Cocora's Wax Palms, is a tale of beauty but there's a dark side to the story.

These palms, once believed to be the tallest trees on earth, thrive on the chilly Andean slopes near the town of Salento. Unfortunately, they are endangered.

In the wild, they are found in dense forests, Nowadays, they stand tall in pastures and vegetable fields. Wax palms, however, cannot reproduce outside a forest: Their seedlings die in the full sun or are eaten by cows and horses.

This basically means that the beautiful Cocora Valley is a graveyard and won't exist anymore by the end of this century.

There's no better place to experience it in my opinion than in the little picturesque town of Cahuita which is known for its natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere.

It's a gem for conscious travelers seeking a blend of adventure and tranquility. The town's crown jewel is the Cahuita National Park, a protected area that showcases some of the most stunning biodiversity in Central America.

Without even needing to look for it you can spot wildlife like howler monkeys, sloths, raccoons, and a myriad of bird species. Furthermore, Its coral reefs are a snorkeler's paradise.

Tips for visiting:
- Hike all the way to the other side of the park. There wasn't a soul around when I was there and there were so many beautiful beach spots
- Stay at one of the Airbnb rooms of Zinja and Alonso (DM me for details!)
- Eat amazing vegan food in town at Aroma Coffee Bar and Breakfast
